"Having a master’s degree allows you to speak boldly about the type of career you want and the skills you can perform."

Your Master’s Degree; the next step to promotions and pay increase

The ancient Greek language had a word which translates into English as “speaking boldly.” The concept of speaking boldly actually implies to speak “without fear,” to speak with confidence. It’s more than freedom of speech which the Greeks cherished; it is the ability to speak or discuss a topic without hesitation because you know your stuff. Having a master’s degree allows you to speak boldly about the type of career you want and the skills you can perform.  Acquiring this ability through a master’s degree online program makes the goal even less daunting because you can study in your own home while continuing your current job. article continued »

Understanding a Master’s Degree
The master’s degree is a degree between a bachelor’s degree and a doctoral degree. It is also the workhorse of many different types of careers. A bachelor’s degree tells a person that you have completed a four year program of study, have accumulated a broad range of general education courses and have, hopefully, chosen a major which is indicated in the title of your degree. You know the basics of most career fields, but there is a lot more, and your employers—as well as your more experienced co-workers—know this.

A doctoral degree is a research degree. It tells a person that you have skills and the tools to stay on top of developments in your field. Even when the degree is finished, continued publication and research is expected.

The master’s degree is neither as advanced as the doctoral degree nor as basic as the bachelor’s degree. However, it is the degree that is found most often in most career fields, and for most individuals, degrees beyond the master’s degree are unnecessary.

Why Should You Get a Master’s Degree Online
The most obvious reason for pursuing a masters degree at all  is to make yourself more desirable to employers. However, many people seek a master’s degree simply because they have a passion for their field and want to learn more about it. Getting the master’s degree is a less stressful process than either the bachelor’s degree or the Ph.D. When getting your bachelor’s degree, you had to prove that you could learn and apply new material, that you had responsible study habits and would complete assignments. The doctoral degree is demanding because it involves developing a new theory or attempting to discover something that no one else has ever thought of. You have to propose an idea and then prove it satisfactorily to a doctoral committee.

With a master’s degree, on the other hand, you aren't expected to come up with something completely new. Instead, you have the opportunity to really dig into an area of interest and develop an advanced understanding as well as build enhanced skills that you could possibly get through years of experience, but that will give you an employment edge if you get them via a degree.

What is the Benefit of Having a Master’s Degree?
For some people the benefit is simply in the ability to be able to speak boldly; that is, having the in-depth knowledge of your field to be able to make statements, direct other people, and recognize situations where certain actions are needed. However, as we live in a world that seems to rotate around the banks, it is important to know that those who had a master’s degree in any field made an average of about $10,000 per year more in salary than those with only a bachelor’s degree. If you study online, it will cost a little more than half of that to complete your master’s degree program, depending on the nature of the discipline. Regardless of your reason for seeking a master’s degree, it’s worth doing.
