Earn Your Law Degree Online

A degree in law has long been regarded as one of the most demanding degrees to earn, second only perhaps to a degree in medicine. While you need not expect the rigor of the program to be compromised, you may find an online law degree is less stressful than a program that requires attending traditional classes. For one thing, you can usually schedule your classes according to your own needs, even taking a few extra semesters for courses that are best mastered one at a time.

The field of law—often referred to as “criminal justice”—has grown as widely specialized as business degrees. Therefore it is helpful to know what type of degree you are seeking when you explore the many online options you will find in our system.

If you want to become a fully licensed practicing attorney, you will want a juris doctorate program. You will need to have a BS in Criminal Justice to enter one of these programs. The juris doctor, however, is not the only way to earn a very generous salary in a law related career. A paralegal, for example, assists an attorney and conducts much of the research on a case, but may only have an associate degree or a BS in Criminal Justice. Most police officers, detectives, arbitrators, and many victim advocates have BS or BA degrees.

Those who do seek graduate degrees in law soon find that they need to specialize and focus, not only in one type of representation, but also in one related discipline. For example, a person with an Executive Juris Doctorate in Health Law will be working with the application of various laws as they apply to health care. These range from the complex HIPPA laws to the investigation of malpractice. A specialist in business law might be investigating corporate crime, computer sabotage, or customs violations, or perhaps simply reviewing contracts to ensure that a company practices its business in ways that are likely to avoid lawsuit.

Salary
The salary you can earn in a law degree depends on the level of education and the type of career you choose. However, anyone with at least a bachelor’s degree can expect to earn $40,000 or more. Those with doctoral degrees often make 6 figures which are supplemented by numerous company perks.

Law degrees are not easy educational paths to pursue. However, law related topics are intensely interesting; if you know you want to enter the law field but aren't exactly sure how you will use your knowledge, use the online opportunity to get started with the basics. Most likely, you will develop a passion for some aspect of law long before you finish your degree.
