Graphic designers also known as graphic artists, analyze, create, and plan visual solutions to communications. They determine the most effective way to get a message across in electronic, print and film media by utilizing a variety of methods such as animation, color, illustration, photography, type, and other print and layout techniques. Individuals in this field usually work in print media, product packaging, signage, and movie and television credits.

For many entry-level and advanced Graphic Design positions, a Bachelor's degree or higher is required. Graphic Designers need to be well versed in computer graphics and design software. In addition to such courses, it is helpful if designers have had instruction in art history, psychology, foreign languages, marketing, and cultural studies. Additionally, it is important that designers keep up-to-date with new developments in software and other graphic design applications.

Approximately 30% of all Graphic Designers/Artists are freelancers. According to statistics, the job outlook for those entering this field is very strong and beginning salaries range around $38,000 per annum. Those with a Bachelor's or higher who have a keen knowledge of animation and web design are in the highest demand.
