A degree in computer science teaches you about the development of computers, about the theoretical and mathematical science that causes computers to work the way they do and educates you in the ways science has been applied to develop the many breathtaking and complex computer programs available to users in every imaginable field from games to running the most complex banking corporation or even managing our country’s defense capabilities. Regardless of the application, they are all built on the same basic principles, and they all use one of just a few different forms of computer language. A person with a degree in computer science is well equipped to specialize in any computer related field.

We have combed the field for the best schools and universities where you can begin researching careers with a computer science degree. You will find that often such degree programs involve education in database systems, programming languages and internet communication systems. Schools with a lot of program offerings may list them as BS in Computer Science / Security Systems, or BS in Computer Science / Programming, and so forth. Your first two years in a four year course will generally provide the basics of computers as well as your required core courses for a comprehensive education. Usually your junior and senior years will allow you to focus on a specific computer science application. Graduate courses will fine tune your specialties even further or give you chance to expand by building on what you learn as an undergraduate.

Depending on the specialty and the area where you live, a career built on a degree in computer science could mean a salary from $50,000 to well into the six figure range. The more you are able to do, the more you will be worth, and the more likely you will be to be given a position where you are leading a team of computer professionals who will be responsible to you. When it comes to computers and computer technology, the only limit these days seems to be your imagination.
